Hawks finish off season with home stand

The final week of the UMass Lowell (UML) softball season ended on a fairly solid not as they battled through weather, cancellations, and desperate opponents to go 2-2 on the week and improve to 23-24 overall and 15-13 within the Northeast-10 conference.

On Tuesday, the ’Hawks struggled through strong winds and scattered showers to a game one loss against NE-10 rival Franklin Pierce, 1-0. NE-10 player of the week Elyssa Boris went all seven innings on the mound for the ’Hawks, giving up just the lone run on four hits in an otherwise solid performance. The second game was postponed due to weather.

Wednesday saw both of its games against non conference opponent, Post University (PU) cancelled due to weather once again.

In an abridged effort to make up the previous game against Franklin Pierce on Thursday, the ’Hawks got their revenge on and eight run explosion and an even better performance by Boris, who through a two hit shutout. Brianna Mahoney and Alyssa Bryan lead the offense to a seven run first inning and would never look back.

Lowell would split its double-header against Pace University on Saturday. In game one, a 6-3 win, it was Boris coming up big once again for the ’Hawks, except this time at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a double, a pair of singles and an RBI. Unfortunately, they could not keep that momentum going, or the offense for that matter, as they would drop the second game of the double header, 4-2. Alyssa Bryan would have a solid game at the plate going 2 for 3, but would also take the loss on the mound, throwing 6.1 innings and giving up four runs on nine hits, striking out three.

The ’Hawks now await the results of other games to determine their post season.
