A look back at football in Lowell

Despite the fact that it is April there is still a lot of talk about football going on around the area. The NFL is draft is now a three-day event, colleges are getting ready for their spring ball, and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is scheduled to appear as the speaker at commencement for UMass [...]

Continuing their hockey careers after UML

Even though their college hockey career’s may be over these RiverHawks are pursing their professional dreams.

A season that was cut far too short

For a handful of teams the season continues, but not the team many in this region believed would. After their first round defeat at the hands of the Maine Black Bears, the UMass Lowell (UML) River Hawks hockey season came to an end. To some it ended far sooner than they had anticipated.
This was [...]

River Hawks advance in NE-10 tournament

Although it may have been the last home game of the year, their season still continues. The River Hawks men’s basketball team defeated Assumption College 91-79 in the first round of the Northeast-10 tournament Saturday afternoon at Costello Gym.
The ’Hawks were able to secure the win with key turnovers, and solid outside shooting. Four players [...]

River Hawks lose in NCAA Field Hockey National Championship

The classic saying is that one is an accident, and two is a trend. For UMass Lowell, three is a habit. The River Hawks reached their third National Championship game in as many years after defeating Stonehill College 2-1 Friday night at W.B. Mason Field in Easton, MA.

River Hawks rack up frequent flyer miles

Not even a change in time zones could end the momentum of the fifth ranked River Hawks. UMass Lowell swept the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers over the weekend, winning both games 1,137 miles away from home in Huntsville, Alabama. The ‘Hawks started off the weekend with a 3-1win Friday night thanks to the help of a two goal game from Colin Wright. They followed that win up with a 4-0 win Saturday off of the second shutout of the season for Carter Hutton.

River Hawks pace Indiana

Senior Steve O’Brien and the rest of the River Hawks cross country and track and field teams are looking forward to Indiana for the NCAA Championship held at Southern Indiana University on Nov. 21.
“Nationals in Indiana should be a very exciting and intense experience,” said O’Brien. “A lot of fans make it out there from a variety of teams and its very nerve racking as well.”

We bought the Tsongas, but not what this referee is selling

Fans already anticipated a high level of intensity during the weekend series between the River Hawks and the defending National Champion Boston University Terriers. That intensity multiplied when Tim Benedetto, the referee from the Hockey East Championship Game, was seen officiating this game.

Even Ace Ventura could not save these Dolphins

A person can do just about anything in 1,032 minutes, except score a goal against the UMass Lowell Women’s Soccer team. Our president proved he could win a Nobel Peace Prize, and call a musician a jackass all before the River Hawks allow a goal.
